DESCRIPTIONOxfam Italia (formerly known as Ucodep) has been working in the Occupied Palestinian Territories
since the years 1994-1996 with development and emergency interventions
primarily in the social and agricultural sectors, supporting people
affected by Israeli occupation and by the conflict in general, both in
urban and rural areas.
Starting from January 2012 Oxfam Italia has been implementing a 2 years “Non-State Actors and
Local Authorities in Development” project funded by the European Commission entitled “Bedouin
Communities in Jerusalem District: from Isolation to Better
Representativeness and Socio-Economic Empowerment”
(DCI-NSAPVD/2011/256-836). The project is in partnership with YMCA and
the NGO Vento di Terra. The intervention will target the 20 Bedouin
communities at risk of displacement living in the Jerusalem district in
the area surrounding the Israeli settlement of Ma’ale Adummim (E1). The
objective of the project is to improve the capacity of the targeted
Bedouin communities to implement poverty reduction and sustainable
development strategies, while increasing their capacity to represent
their social and economic interests.
The project is composed by 3 main components:-Development of institutional representative structures
-Capacity building
-Development of representative committees and a representative body
-Training on administration and management
-Diversification of the sources of income
-Vocational training
-Development of income-generating activities
-Reduction of the social fragmentation and marginalization
-Promote web-accessibility
-Establishment of linkages among the Bedouin communities and local, national and international
stakeholders in social, cultural and economic sectors
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES The following tasks must be carried out in cooperation with the Program Coordinator of Oxfam Italia:
The social mobilizator/local coordinator will have a key role in the coordination of the project activities.
He/she will be the contact link between Oxfam Italia and the targeted Bedouin communities. He/she
will be involved in all the activities in order to support their implementation and stimulate the
participation of the beneficiaries.
-Facilitate the organization and the general implementation of the activities
-Facilitate the relationships with the local Bedouin communities and Oxfam Italia
-Facilitate the implementation of an assessment on the socio-economic conditions, internal
structures and relations inside the communities involved in the project
-Support in the implementation of a labour market survey
-Support the Oxfam Italia Project Coordinator in the organization of meetings with the beneficiaries
-Periodically draft the reports regarding the implementation of the activities
SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS-Excellent communication and social skills
-Proactive and autonomous
-At least 2 years of experience with development work
-Preferred experience with community development/economic development interventions
-Proficiency using Microsoft Excel and word
-Proficiency in English and Arabic
-Work by and adhere to Oxfam values
-Direct knowledge of the 20 Bedouin communities is an asset
-Previous experience in capacity building and social mobilization activities is an asset
